Celebrating One Year of Blogging

Reflecting on my blog’s one-year anniversary, I can’t help but feel a sense of accomplishment. When I made the New Year’s resolution to write an article once a week, I wasn’t sure if I could stick to it. However, looking back now, I’m proud to say that I’ve achieved that goal. It’s been an incredible learning experience and I’m excited to share some of the key takeaways from this past year.

The Journey So Far

At the beginning of 2023, I used my blog to discuss my Fulbright journey . Although it didn’t come to fruition, I’m happy to have documented my journey

Over the past year, I’ve dedicated myself to consistently creating content for my blog. It has been a journey filled with ups and downs, but overall, it has been immensely rewarding. I’ve had the opportunity to explore topics that I’m passionate about and share my thoughts with a growing audience. Connecting with readers and receiving their feedback has been the most fulfilling part of this journey.

Lessons Learned

One of my favorite pieces of the year was my interview with mathematical memes expert Dr. Giulia Bini. We connected over our experiences of researching memes

Through this experience, I’ve learned the importance of consistency and perseverance. Setting a goal to write an article every week pushed me to stay disciplined and manage my time effectively. I’ve also discovered the power of engagement. While my blog may not be profitable, the ability to connect with new people and spark meaningful conversations has been invaluable.

One of the most popular blog posts of the year was a guide to surviving the Italian bureaucracy system.

Additionally, I’ve honed my writing skills and gained a deeper understanding of what resonates with my audience. This past year has taught me that success isn’t solely measured by monetary gains, but also by the impact I’ve been able to make through my writing.

Consistency in Writing

One of the more profound pieces for me was writing when I had 0 motivation to write. Getting through this big block was necessary for the mental game of writing for the year

Maintaining a consistent writing schedule was undoubtedly a challenge. There were moments when I felt drained of creativity or struggled to find inspiration. Despite this, I pushed through and stuck to my commitment, often discovering that the act of writing itself sparked new ideas and momentum. Embracing a routine helped me improve my writing skills and develop my unique voice as a blogger.

Overcoming Challenges

To balance my time effectively, I learned to write about what was happening in my regular life. For example, I wrote an article about how to submit an article to a journal the week that I submitted my manuscript for the first time.

Along the journey, I faced various obstacles that tested my resolve. From juggling my day job to finding time for research and editing, there were instances when I questioned whether it was feasible to continue. Nevertheless, I learned to embrace these challenges as opportunities for growth and innovation. Over time, I became more adept at managing my time efficiently and increasing my problem-solving skills.

Personal Growth

Another one of my favorite articles is the 6 Memes that Sun Up the Drama in Psychology and Neuroscience. This article was not only fun to write, but also helped me process the turmoil going on in my scientific field.

Reflecting on my year of consistent writing, I can confidently say that I’ve undergone significant personal growth. I’ve learned to approach setbacks with resilience and creativity, finding new ways to engage with my audience and explore diverse topics. My commitment to weekly writing has not only strengthened my discipline but also instilled a sense of accomplishment and pride in my work.

One of my articles (Is time running out for the PhD student? ) was actually published in a popular blog called the PhD place!

By achieving my new year resolution, I’ve not only upheld a commitment to myself but also opened the door to new opportunities for personal and professional development.

Expanding Reach through Social Media

My Ikea Effect on Internet Memes was greatly liked by the Behavioral Economics Group on LinkedIn

I made it a priority to leverage the power of social media to expand the reach of my blog. By regularly sharing my content on platforms like Instagram, Twitter, and LinkedIn, I was able to connect with a broader audience. Using engaging visuals and meaningful captions, I piqued the interest of potential new readers and directed them to my blog. Additionally, I utilized hashtags to increase the visibility of my posts and actively participated in relevant conversations to further amplify my reach.

Impact on Readers

One of the most helpful guides I wrote this year was for the first year PhD students from my previous experience

One of the most rewarding aspects of my blogging journey has been the impact I’ve had on my readers. Through my weekly articles, I’ve been able to provide valuable information, entertain, and even inspire my audience. The positive feedback and comments from readers have reassured me that my blog is making a difference in people’s lives. Here, I would like to thank you for your attention over the year.

Measuring Success Beyond Profit

I’m glad to have written my way to 2023 just as I ran my way through 2022.

As I reflect on my blog’s one-year anniversary, I realize that success goes beyond monetary gains. When evaluating the success of my blog, I consider factors beyond profit. Engaging with a wider audience, receiving positive feedback, and creating meaningful content all contribute to the overall success of my blog.

In conclusion, as I celebrate my blog’s one year anniversary, I am proud to have achieved my resolution of writing an article every week. Despite not being profitable, I have successfully connected with a new audience. Moving forward, likely will not post with the same regularity as 2023. My 2024 resolution is to cultivate more gratitude in my life via journaling. I’m taking my writing internal!

Thank you to all the readers who have supported me throughout this journey!!
